Keeping Time User Guide

Keeping Time is available as an installer ("local" version), which works like any other installable application, as well as a portable versions, which requires no installation.

Local and Portable

Both versions have the same features, with the exception of the following installation differences:

Portable only

- requires no installation, writes all settings exclusively into the folder it has been extracted to.

- writes no registry keys or any data outside of its own folder.

- can be uninstalled by simply deleting the folder.

Local only

- Writes Start Menu shortcuts and optionally a Desktop shortcut.

- Saves preferences in the user's AppData/Local/Keeping Time folder.

- *.time files are registered to open with Keeping Time.

- provides an Uninstaller for uninstalling Keeping Time.

Which version to choose

If you want the most ease of use, the Local version might be best. It has a "regular" installer, will associate Keeping Time projects with the application and adds Start Menu shortcuts. In order to do that, it has to write to the Windows registry. The uninstaller will remove it completely, but if you want Keeping Time to not write anything to your system, it is better to use the portable version.

The portable version is self-contained and just needs to be extracted to a location of your choosing. It is best for more advanced users, and those cautious about what changes an application makes to their system.

Both versions have the same features and neither "phones" out or transmits any data anywhere.
